Of course she tried to lie about it at first, saying she never went into his room, then it was she never touched his things. After she ran out of lies she switched to trying to play victim again. SO never laid a finger on her, but JNMIL screamed at FIL to call the cops and accused SO of hitting her. Luckily FIL ignored the fight this time and SO got to lock himself in his room to escape her. The next day, SO and I were talking about the visit and he showed his parents some pictures of us and the trip. JNMIL made a comment about telling SO's uncle about the trip, job interview, and visiting me and said that his uncle will be happy to know that I'm not a man. But I guess it's not like we've been dating for almost 5 years, FaceTime all the time, and have literally been physically together. Anyway, SO is really uncomfortable with JNMIL sharing anything about him to any of the family, mostly because she has a big mouth and shares EVERYTHING. JNMIL knows this, but she still ignores this boundary.

For many employers, these types of positions serve as test drives—they are a low-cost way to see if a role needs to be full-time and to find out if a potential employee is a good fit. DO NOT post this anywhere else. This is sort of an update, success, and rant all rolled into one. SO knows about this post, too. So in my last post I talked about JNMIL's issues with respecting privacy and boundaries and my SO's visit coming up. Well, visit is over (best birthday present ever) and SO was greeted at home with a huge violation of trust and privacy from both JNMIL and FIL. FIL is the only other one who knows where the key to SO's room is, so he's in charge of taking care of SO's cat while he was away for less than 2 days (she can't be left to roam the house if SO isn't there because of JNMIL's irresponsibility, but that's a different can of worms). FIL agrees to only go into SO's room to check on the cat and make sure she has food and water. Well, FIL left the door unlocked and open instead and JNMIL took that as an okay to go into SO's room and touch and move his things. How do we know for certain that she went into SO's room? For one, clothes and a box of some of SO's things are missing, but the biggest evidence is JNMIL admitting to it with absolutely no remorse.

Network, Network, Network It's a cliché that's true: sometimes it's more about who you know than about what you know. Networking can sound fake and forced, but done right, it's just a matter of making connections and doing favors. Look for opportunities to meet new people in your field. You can find relevant events from professional associations or browse upcoming events on, but you can also spend time with old friends and coworkers. Arrange to have one coffee date a week. Expand upon your elevator pitch when you're chatting and ask everyone you know—fellow parents, teachers, and so on—if they can introduce you to someone in your field. Balance your time between rekindling connections with your existing network and building new connections. College was out of the question but I knew I had to be ready for when something happened. I was not wrong. In 2012 DACA was announced and I early crapped my pants. I immediately filed and got my license. I quit my factory job that paid bare minimum while requiring me to work 10-16 hours a day while physically and mentally draining me. I was basically slaving myself for mere pennies. I had no option. I was undocumented. HA! NO MORE! I found a new job. Sure, it was labor intensive and physically demanding but I finally had benefits like vacation and sick days. Better yet, I was legally able to work without worrying! I continued to save while thinking that someday something big would happen. Despite DACA, my depression was still there. I still cried. I was filled with anger and I expressed it in my character. I was mean and rude to people. Mind you, I knew that if I ever got into trouble I would lose DACA so I always tried to keep it low. Pretty much I gas lighted situations and then walked away before they escalated.
This study builds on existing research into the challenges unemployed job applicants experience when trying to find new jobs. While researchers have studied why parents might decide to leave work and stay at home with their children, previous research did not have a clear understanding of what happens to these parents when they decide to return to work. In the study, I sent fictitious résumés to real job openings. I developed a set of résumés to represent three types of job applicants: currently employed applicants with no employment gaps, unemployed applicants, and stay-at-home parent applicants. Male or female names made the applicants appear to be either men or women. The application materials implied that all fictitious applicants were parents and all applicants had the same level of experience, number of jobs, and skills. Those who had employment gaps had been out of the workforce for 18 months. In the span of several months from 2015 to 2016, I sent a total of 3, 374 résumés to job listings in 50 U. S. cities for accountants, financial analysts, software engineers, HR managers, and marketing directors.
